We support clients with a range of issues and our team also supports on the tax treatment on all of our client's income types, calculate capital gains, and help reduce tax liability. As a Technician you will start to take ownership of clients and be responsible for helping our Associates further their Technical knowledge. At Grant Thornton we can offer you flexible and agile Our clients know just how important it is to maximise and protect their personal wealth. However, the UK has some of the most complex tax legislation in the world. Over time, taxes such as income tax, capital gains tax and inheritance tax can also erode their wealth significantly. Grant Thornton's Personal Tax Compliance Unit specialises in advising client's on how to minimise their tax liability and to ensure they are complying with their tax obligations. As the tax system is always changing, the team are skilled in keeping client's up-to-date on developments and advise on how the changes might affect them. Throughout, they can relax knowing their tax affairs are in safe hands.
Overall Role Purpose A Tax Technician must demonstrate sufficient technical knowledge to undertake the preparation and finalisation of tax returns, use and understand legislation appropriately and manage their own client portfolio.
Portfolio management (under guidance from manager)
Proactive management and ownership of client portfolio
Taking responsibility for driving tax return process
Planning and prioritisation of the work
Be aware of each client's position and demonstrate this to manager in workflow meeting
Communicate with managers, clients or relationship managers in a timely manner
Effective time management
Prepare high quality tax returns for portfolio of clients
Produce organised and well-structured client files
Awareness of risk management, seek to address areas of concern
Understands the client's perspective and communicate with them accordingly
Produce clear and concise correspondence to the client
Ability to develop relationships with clients
Seek to build on a basic level knowledge of tax
Demonstrate ability to learn and develop, taking on feedback provided
Show an interest in researching technical queries to generate own opinion
Recognise when support is required and seek at the appropriate level
Develop confidence in challenging technical positions previously adopted
Proactive in supporting other members of the team
Willingly share knowledge with others
Act as buddy to new starters
Assist in development of processors
Positive role model to junior people It is recognised that Technicians are all at different stages in their training and will need varying levels of support and training to meet these expectations. Experienced Technicians should demonstrate competence in each area.
Must be able to demonstrate experience dealing with personal tax issues, ideally gained within a practice environment.
Must have started relevant professional qualification (AAT or similar)
