The Legal Department of TD Bank Group is comprised of lawyers and support staff of approximately 300 employees in Canada and the US with expertise tailored to deliver integrated legal solutions to our global business units and corporate functions. Understanding our clients' business legal and regulatory requirements
Anticipating emerging issues and providing flexible responses based on experience
Providing advice that protects the Bank's reputation and mitigates legal risk
The Mgr External Legal Services assists with the implementation of transformational initiatives designated to minimize legal spend across the enterprise while maintaining strong partnerships with external legal service providers as a member of the Transformation and External Services team
Develops and implements end-to-end processes, policies, tools and an end-user service management framework for TD Legal, including optimizing technological capabilities, to enhance process management, data analysis and reporting
Manages relationships with external firms globally on TD's behalf; continually assess firm compliance with RFP/engagement documents to ensure cost savings are maximized
Proactively works with TD Legal and its business partners to gather requirements for legal services
Develops and executes a training and communication plan, including regular reporting, in connection with key transformational initiatives
Leads the implementation of defined cost reduction and other transformational initiatives, including, without limitation, assisting legal and business professionals with structuring alternative fee arrangements and enforcing project plans and budgets
Identifies and monitors key trends, and develop and implement action plans to address gaps and opportunities
Implements and sustains a global convergence program, alternative fee arrangements, performance scorecards, semi-annual strategic firm meetings, outside counsel diversity initiatives
Responsible for managing the Legal Department's global conflict waiver process
Bachelor's Degree required and Post Graduate degree preferred (Law, Business, Finance, Commerce)
The ideal candidate will have experience in the area of external counsel management and at least 10 years of professional experience
Proven ability to interpret and analyze complex conceptual issues and develop and implement creative strategies to effectively manage legal spend and external counsel relationships.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
Must be comfortable with ambiguity and change; experience with developing/ implementing change management strategies is a definite asset.
Advanced knowledge of project management, financial planning and analytical processes.
Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple deadlines and priorities; exceptional organizational skills.
A team player with demonstrated people management and interpersonal skills, and an ability to effectively manage internal and external working relationships
