Job Description of a senior offshore client portfolio manager (IGW)
An ideal CPM blends investment knowledge and client facing business development skill, and relieves portfolio managers of responsibilities that distract from the task of investment management
An ideal CPM has the background as a portfolio manager or analyst in Chinese equities (China A preferred), therefore the investment experience, knowledge and credibility to enable him/her to clearly articulate portfolio strategy and market outlook of China A share.Importantly, the CPM is more skilled in client meetings than the portfolio managers.He/she is charged with representing the Investment Team externally to clients, prospects and consultants, and deployed at prospect and cross-sell pitches to win business.
The CPM will also be charged with promoting brand of IGW and thought leadership through regular media exposures, speaking at conferences, authoring papers and feature articles.Due to the CPM's deep investment and product knowledge, he/she will also assist and support product management in contributing to investment presentations, edit/author regular investment reports.
The CPM will have a deep understanding of and can clearly articulate the investment process of the team to be able to answer/edit answers for RFPs in a professional manner.
The CPM will work closely with the Head of Investment, CIO of Active Equities and CIO of Quantitative Equities, IGW investment teams...The CPM will collaborate with the IGW onshore CPMs and regional CPM team in Asia.He/she will report to Head of Investments at IGW.
The CPM will not have portfolio management or research responsibilities, but will attend the investment team meetings to have firsthand information on the latest economic/market developments and the investment team's view.
Representing IGW investment team externally is an important aspect of a CPM's responsibility.The CPM must have outstanding business development and relationship building skills as well as the ability to communicate consistently and professionally with external and internal clients. Client work with people they like, trust and respect.Presentation and communication skills must be excellent.
The CPM needs to help ensure that the sales team has the appropriate focus on IGW's China A share products and capabilities
The CPM needs to help cultivate consultant relationships and demonstrate investment capabilities to them
The CPM should have solid understanding of client needs for China onshore markets, and be able to offer thoughtful solutions
. The CPM should have an understanding of the business opportunities, competitor's landscape and what is of strategic importance. Ultimately, the objective of having this CPM role is to work with Head of Investments and project team at IGW to form and implement China A share Go-to-Market strategy with the aim of building a franchise and reputation as one of the strongest China A share equities teams among overseas investors globally.
Strong investment background （5-10 years in investment or research）, with experience in Chinese equity or A share preferred
Proven business development and sales execution skills, with extensive experience working with overseas clients strongly preferred
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative working relationships
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, and Chinese (Mandarin) strongly preferred
Positive and can-do attitude. Highly driven and self-motivated, with ability to set, meet and exceed targets and high quality standard. Able to ultimately own the results
Analytical thinking and strong problem solving skills
Ability to work under pressure with a demanding workload to strict deadline and prioritize various tasks
Willingness to travel extensively
