Overview of role As an associate in the Equity Capital Markets advisory department of the Global Advisory group you will advise clients on equity capital markets transactions, including IPOs, common stock offerings, block trades and other shareholder monetizations and convertible offerings. Our transactions span the range of sizes from billion-dollar megadeals to offerings by small-cap growth companies, and many are cross-border in nature. Recent representative transactions include Alibaba's $25 billion IPO (largest IPO ever globally), Spotify's $31 billion direct listing on the NYSE (advisor to two major shareholders), Markit's $1.5 billion IPO, the Canadian Government's monetization of General Motors and multiple growth equity IPOs and stock offerings by consumer, healthcare and technology companies.
Assist in the origination and execution of advisory assignments for equity capital markets transactions
Support senior bankers' marketing initiatives by performing, writing and coordinating the work of team members and resources to deliver a pitch book to specification
Manage transaction execution by coordinating internally and with underwriters, lawyers and other advisers, reviewing transaction documentation, anticipating potential issues, defining supporting analysis for negotiation purposes and preparing an agenda for regular client calls
Perform, coordinate and review analysis, studies and data regarding equity market trends and transaction and structure precedents
Support sector bankers by performing capital markets analysis regarding issues related to relevant to M&A/equity transactions
Coach and managing juniors team members as required
Contribute to the overall investment banking franchise by supporting interdisciplinary pitching and execution efforts
Education and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Management, or Economics and prior experience in investment banking, or Master's Degree in Finance, Economics or related field
Experience as an investment banking analyst/associate focused on Equity Capital Markets
Experience, Skills and Competencies Required
Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, PowerPoint and Excel), Dealogic, Factset and Thomson
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to recognize fee-generating opportunities
Strong quantitative ability and analytical skills with knowledge of corporate finance and financial accounting
Financial modeling and valuation experience using public debt, equity and transaction comparables, preferred
Desire to work across industries, learning the businesses of multiple clients in different lines of business
Broader interest in equity capital markets
Strong team-oriented and mission driven focus
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a readiness to work effectively in cross-border and domestic teams
Ability to handle numerous tasks simultaneously and to shift priorities appropriately on a daily basis
Polished and professional writing skills required
Ability to develop long-term, professional client relationships
