What is the Franklin Templeton Solutions group responsible for?
The team build and manage multi asset solutions, their philosophy combines a top-down and bottom-up approach in order to deliver diversified, actively managed investment strategies. As a Quantitative Analyst you'll help the Portfolio Manager launch our new multi asset absolute return fund; providing advice and guidance on portfolio construction, risk analysis, ad hoc analysis of complex strategies as well as leading research around risk visualization, data science, portfolio construction, derivatives modelling and optimization techniques.
What are the ongoing responsibilities of a Quantitative Analyst?
Provides quantitative on desk support for the portfolio management team around portfolio construction, risk, correlation, liquidity and scenario analysis
On a day to day basis you'll ensure the fund is loaded into the risk system and will maintain the output in a custom dashboard as specified by the portfolio managers
Build tools to help visualise portfolio risk and the interactions between strategies
Develop and run both hypothetical and historic stress tests
Build and maintain monitors to ensure adequate liquidity in all market conditions
Responsible for pre-trade risk analysis and ensuring that all strategies comply with fund risk and liquidity tolerance
Ensure any new idea does not breach the set risk limits and advise of any material impact a new strategy may have
Assess the quantitative output of the model vs the fundamental rational and challenge any contradictions
Undertake ad hoc analysis of complex strategies (additional risk modelling and analysis)
Engage in research around portfolio construction, derivatives modelling and optimisation
Investigate the application of alternative data sets and machine learning to portfolio construction and risk
Present at weekly portfolio review meetings
Attend the monthly new ideas meetings and the quarterly thematic meetings to provide risk and portfolio construction input
Participate in institutional client meetings, regulatory meetings and due diligence requests
Build strong relationships with the wider risk team, acting as an essential link between them and the portfolio managers
Build relationships with sell side Quant teams and leverage their output to improve the process
What qualifications, skills and experience would help someone to be successful?
Bachelor's degree required ideally in a quantitative field, MSC or PhD would be beneficial
Prior experience working within a Quant or Risk Analyst position ideally within a Multi Asset team
Familiarity ideally with Risk Metrics and/or Cognity or similar system
Good understanding of financial derivatives and their application; pricing/modelling experience a plus
Coding experience in R or Python, and potentially Matlab ideally in a financial setting, C++/C# not essentially but nice to have
Strong attention to detail and analytic skills whilst being able to communicate data/results in a simple way to colleagues/clients without loss of key information
Need to be able to work well with minimum supervision and in time take the lead on building out the process
Inquisitive nature and eager to learn, ability to see the bigger picture and not get bogged down in detail, not afraid to voice opinions or challenge the status quo
