The successful candidate will report to the Head of Responsible Investment and will work closely with our other members of the investment team. The role is needed to assist with the increasing workload of the RI team as our assets grow and the number of investment mandates increase.
The ESG analyst plays a role in developing the company's Responsible Investment policies and processes and contributes to carrying out and ensuring the development of the scheme's stewardship and ESG integration approaches.
The selected person will assist in ensuring that the company's investment strategies, voting and engagement approach are consistent with its ESG investment belief, ESG viewpoints and RI principles.
The stewardship accountabilities which will make up around 70% of the candidate's time are:
To be the first point of contact with the company's voting proxy research advisor during UK voting season
Analyse voting research and recommendations from the proxy research advisor on the company's voting direction and engage with fund managers where votes are not in line with the company's views
Manage voting of shares within the company's Commodity fund
Organise and attend engagements with companies and prepare briefing reports on matters in question
Ensure the company is at the forefront of key industry developments and regulatory changes and help inform viewpoints
Assist with the annual review of the company's voting and engagement policy
Manage the stewardship reporting function internally and externally
Proactively engage with other asset owners, asset managers, RI networks and other specialist providers to build and share knowledge
The ESG data analysis accountabilities which will make up around 30% of the candidate's time are:
Research and analysis on environmental, social and governance issues of companies within the company's portfolio, identifying the biggest issues and assessing how they can affect the risk and value of the company's portfolios
Assess ESG performance of companies against the company strategic ESG views
Develop the company viewpoints on certain ESG themes and propose key actions for managing risks and opportunities identified
Work closely with others in the investment team to ensure the incorporation of ESG across the investment approach, risk management framework, new investment mandates and risk reporting to the Trustee
Respond to Government and stakeholder consultations
Review fund managers' ESG policies and the company divestment policies
Participate in membership meetings and contribute towards the company's networks including the PRI, IIGCC, TCFD, 30% Club, PLSA and the FRC
Represent the company at external conferences and seminars and gather interesting information of use to the company
Achieve voting and engagement outcomes that positively influence company behaviour and policy makers
Assist in developing policies for the scheme on aspects of stewardship including voting, engagement and risk monitoring
Update the team on industry developments and make recommendations on involvement in various initiatives
Respond to written consultations to regulators/policy makers where it's deemed of interest
Professional investment qualifications desirable
