In February 2019, our client hired a new MD from a leading sovereign wealth fund to lead this team and its functions. The fund will have a truly global focus, reaching from Latin/South America to Asia, and whilst the team will initially be based in London there will be the opportunity to base yourself in Singapore over the mid-long term.
The fund is solely back by a blue-chip US corproate, who have committed $75mn and will commit a further $75mn every 2-3 years, up to a maximum of $300mn.
Our client have already begun originating deals for the team over 2019 and initial deal flow is already strong. Due to their particularly strong network in the Chinese and Asian market, activity will be particularly high here. As such, experience understanding the pulse of this market will be advantageous.
Crucially, this fund will primarily be invested into sectors outside of financial services, into businesses impacting the insurance market. Sectors under review include mobility/travel, consumer platforms, Internet of Things/Smart cities, and AI/blockchain. Current examples include an AI Doctor in Singapore, which will impact the regional life/health insurance market through changing data collection methods and facilitating the acquisition of new users and data.
As such, our client are keen to bring someone on board with experience in a broad range of sectors, but an appreciation of how developments in these impact financial services.
With the deployment of this new VC fund underway already, our client are looking to add either an Investment Associate or Investment VP to his team. The successful individual will be able to assist the firm and run transactions through all phases of the investment life cycle. As such, your day to day responsibilities will include working across all phases of the investment life cycle, from deal origination and execution through to value creation and exit, whilst managing multiple investment processes at once. Given you'll be working in a lean team of 2, exposure will be extremely high and you'll have frequent opportunity to work independently and with your own initiative.
This Opportunity will offer you:
The opportunity to play a key role on deals across all phases of the investment life-cycle, from sourcing to investment and value creation to exit.
The opportunity to develop your career under the guidance of a strong and highly experienced senior individual, with room for your own innovation and space to grow.
Fresh capital of c.$75mn to invest from day 1, with a commitment to grow this in coming years.
An exciting and entrepreneurial culture within a growing and progressive firm.
High levels of responsibility within a lean team structure.
Broad geographical focus within the emerging markets.
The chance to invest into a variety of high growth and dynamic sectors from a VC perspective.
The ideal candidate will likely have 4-8 years of overall experience, which includes a combination of investments and operations work.
This could be gained through another VC firm, a start up, or corporate development, amongst other roles.
Experience in any sector can be useful but an appreciation of financial services, and how developments in other sectors impacts insurance, is essential.
High energy, curious and 'comfortable with change' personality.
Great sense of ownership and pride of work.
The ability to think and progress quickly; equal aptitude for operating and executing as strategizing and analyzing.
This role is based in London, but the flexibility for regular business travel is required
Mandarin fluency is required for this position.
