J efferies LLC's Tax department seeks a highly motivated individual who will play a critical role in its Tax Accounting & Compliance group.
Role will report directly to the Head of Tax Accounting & Compliance
Manage the domestic and consolidated worldwide effective tax rate and income tax accruals in accordance with ASC 740 for the numerous regulatory filings and financial statement disclosures (10-K, 10-Q) on an annual and interim basis. Prepare all required financial statement disclosures and footnotes related to income taxes for the consolidated worldwide group and separate company reporting entities.
Ability to serve as a key contact for the income tax accounting function working directly with senior members within various groups of Finance (i.e., Controllers, Accounting Policy, External Reporting, Financial Planning & Analysis, Treasury, etc.). Work directly with external auditors on a regular basis and serve as a direct contact for all tax related questions or issues.
Preparation and review of the Federal Corporation income tax return for all of the North American operations including the preparation of all quarterly estimates and extension calculations.
Evaluate proposed and enacted tax laws with the ability to d raft memoranda for management based on findings from research conducted on the new tax legislation and the potential corporate tax impact.
Constantly evaluates new business issues and their respective financial accounting treatment to ensure the proper tax treatment. This includes the ability to recognize potential areas when there are differing book and tax treatments.
Track and maintain the global deferred tax inventory on a monthly basis.
Effectively manage tax exams by coordinating with auditors in a timely and efficient manner. This includes preparing written and verbal responses or protests as well as documentation for submission to the various taxing authorities to support the positions taken on filed tax returns.
Experience maintaining a strong internal control environment and Sarbanes-Oxley documentation.
Ability to mentor, train and manage staff while assisting and encouraging them to further develop their tax technical skills and knowledge to successfully grow as a tax professional.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a public accounting firm or large publicly traded corporation, preferably Financial Services
Significant in-depth knowledge of income tax laws and tax accounting principles in accordance with ASC 740
Ability to multi-task while ensuring internal and external deadlines are met in a timely manner
Excellent oral and written communication skills
OneSource and/or CorpTax experience a plus
Undergraduate or graduate degree in Accounting
CPA (a plus)
Masters in Tax Degree (a plus)
