My client, a global investment bank is looking for a Director for Credit Risk (Counterparty risk) for the APAC region.
Purpose of Role
To provide pro-active credit risk management of a distinct portfolio of predominantly APAC North Asia (e.g. China, HK, Korea, Taiwan) counterparties (country or sector) to ensure they remain within the bank's appetite and minimise credit losses.
Set risk appetite on a single counterparty basis and help drive / formulate risk appetite for the region, sector and for the Financing and Risk Solutions business in APAC.
End-to-end credit risk management including scenario analysis and stress-testing, approval of internal risk rating, and regular monitoring of counterparty performance to identify any emerging credit risks.
Build and maintain strong relationships with Trading & Sales acting as an enabler with business partners, seeking to find solutions to proposals. Demonstrate sound credit judgment in analysis and approval / decline of new transactions, reflecting deep understanding of pertinent issues and risk drivers.
Provide Traded Credit Risk management support for deal clearance requests from Trading & Sales and actively participate and help implementing the change agenda in Credit Risk
What are the skills, knowledge and experience needed to do the role?
Familiarity with risk management and control processes appropriate to a financial services environment. This includes eexperience in the banking sector and credit risk / rating function, or similar, where credit risk management is a key part of the job.
Minimum 10 years experience in counterparty credit analysis across a broad range of Financial Institutions (e.g. banks, insurance companies, brokers / securities companies, asset managers) and Corporates with recent coverage of the North Asia market in particular.
Good knowledge of financial accountancy and modelling techniques used in counterparty and transaction analysis. This includes a strong analytical background in credit & country risk analysis skills related to EM and/or 'developing' market economies in APAC. Candidates with experience in approving / managing structured credit / financing & risk solution transactions in APAC will be given preference.
Strong traded product knowledge (covering derivative and financing products ) including an understanding of key documentation terms and agreements used.
Preference will be given to candidates that can speak mandarin and/or Korean and have experience in managing a team / people.
Experience at exercising individual delegated credit authority
Having the ability to work independently with minimum supervision and exhibit a positive "can do' attitude and willingness to broaden horizons outside of core credit competency required.
Have a take ownership and following up mindset and able to work successfully as part of a team and with senior management.
Have a track record of challenging the status quo.
Bachelor/Masters degree or equivalent professional qualification.
