What we do Northern Trust Asset Management is a multi-asset class investment manager offering a broad range of investment solutions. The primary focus of this role will be to manage a team that supports the Portfolio Management and Trading teams in the overall management of their accounts and also supports implementation of identified new business.
Responsible for the assignment of work related to functions will include Trade Monitoring, Cash Monitoring, Position Monitoring, Counterparty and Venue Management, Account Setup and Maintenance, Corporate Actions Queries, Exception Resolution, FX instruction, Regulatory Reporting and any associated tasks. Knowledge of investments, including terminology, instruments and general industry practices is required. Strong analytical and communication skills are required to research and resolve queries and issues. Conducts performance management and career development processes. What you will do
Serves as the manager on a team that supports Front, Middle and Operations teams
Organizes the work of the team, assigns tasks, sets short-term priorities, monitors all activities and ensures timely and accurate completion of the work
Provide direct coverage for absences on the team
Manages daily review of positions, market values and cash to validate accuracy. Investigate any inaccuracies identified and their impact on Portfolio Managers, and coordinate directly with Operations team to resolve
Ensure appropriate checks are in place to maintain correct accounting book of records
Oversight for the delivery of Operations/ Middle Office output
Escalate issues to line management and Portfolio Managers/Traders
Research, analyse and resolve complex client inquiries
Ensures the timely and accurate implementation and set-up of new business
Work as part of a global team with members based in London, Chicago, Hong Kong and India
Carries out complex activities with significant financial, client, and/or internal business impact
Direct interaction with committees and/or Senior Management
Conducts performance management and career development processes, and staffing and disciplinary actions
Recruit, train, mentor and develop employees, providing management, leadership and guidance to staff
Ensure Operations teams adhere to Service Level Agreements (SLA), measure delivery of services against SLA, ensure corrective actions are executed as and when needed
Generate, interpret and action Management Information Statistics (MIS) metrics; monitor key metrics for trends and act accordingly.
Create, document, maintain and improve process flows, operating procedures and controls.
Build working relationships with internal NT teams both locally and globally.
Leadership and organizational skills are needed to prioritize assignments and provide feedback to staff.
Analytical skills to resolve and research queries and issues
Good verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of securities markets and Portfolio Management
Proven understanding of the trading and settlement life cycle for equities, fixed income, futures and FX
Strong MS-Excel skills
Experience with Bloomberg, FxAll and key NT Systems (e.g. Charles River, Eagle, Blackrock Aladdin) beneficial
Strong process and procedure development skills
Previous management or supervisory experience
In-depth industry knowledge with extensive experience of operational, middle office and front office support functions
Extensive experience working within an Asset Management house
Experience of working on passive Index mandates would be beneficial
Proven ability to work in a fast paced, ever changing environment
Knowledge of Factset and Bloomberg systems an advantage
A university degree and/or 3-5 years of relevant experience in investment management industry or investment operations role. Industry qualifications preferred.
