What you'll do
You'll join one of five hiring desks in our Financing & Risk Solutions business, which provides NatWest Markets' customers with integrated financing, debt capital markets and risk management solutions which are built on insight.
Commercial Real Estate provides funding solutions and distributes commercial real estate debt to our extensive global client base
Financial Institutions delivers funding and derivative solutions to financial institution clients in the UK, EMEA and APAC
Structuring provides bespoke funding and derivative solutions to meet the complex requirements of clients around the globe
Syndicate works in partnership with other banks and lenders to spread the risk of credit
Business Management provides crucial support across Financing & Risk Solutions, and ensures we have a sustainable control framework in place
Whichever desk you're placed on you'll be a full member of the core team, whether it's helping deliver solutions to clients, implement new procedures, or address complex risk and financing requirements. You'll quickly build your understanding of the wider business's products, services and markets and the part your team plays in them, and will contribute analysis and material to support the desk's goals.
Flexibility and collaboration will be important, and you'll work with a wide range of businesses within NatWest Markets, with support functions, and with linked businesses in the wider RBS. This cooperation means you can expect your network to grow quickly, something which you'll further by acting as a visible ambassador for the apprenticeship programme across the NatWest Markets business.
The skills you'll need
You'll need the equivalent of ABB at A-Level to be eligible for the programme, ideally including Mathematics. We'll also expect an interest in and understanding of capital markets and derivatives products, and for Commercial Real Estate we'll be looking for an understanding of the client sector. High levels of motivation will be essential whichever desk you're placed on, and we'll expect you to make a contribution from the day you join. You should be committed to driving your own personal and professional development, and to making the most of the learning opportunities available to you.
You'll also need:
An analytical mindset and a keen eye for detail
Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing
Good influencing skills, with the willingness to put forward your opinion, supported by rationale
The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from a wide range of businesses and functions
Proven interpersonal, relationship building and team working skills
Fluency in a European language would also welcome, as would strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Outlook and Excel.
What else you need to know
Apprenticeship opportunities are designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to be successful in the role. There needs to be the potential for the significant development of capabilities and competence during the programme for you to be eligible. You won't be able to join the programme if you have the same or equivalent qualification, or work experience at a similar level in a similar field. This may include a related apprenticeship, a university degree, or a role in which you may have developed similar skills.
