J.P. Morgan's Depositary Services business is a market leader in the provision of depositary services, servicing in excess of $2.3 trillion of assets for 150 clients across 13 European locations. The Depositary team monitors activities of the investment managers to confirm compliance with regulations, identifying and resolving any breaches to help ensure the underlying investor interests are protected, across a range of fund structures, including funds subject to the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive and UCITS Regulation.
Reporting to the Head of UK Depositary Services, this Executive Director role will lead a team of 8-10 senior client facing specialists, overseeing a range of key asset management groups, with primary responsibility for ensuring JPMorgan's depositary oversight obligations are undertaken in accordance with UK and other fund regulation. The Senior Trustee Manager will also play a key role in supporting product development, thought leadership, client retention and strategic new business growth, working closely with key stakeholders and broader business lines.
Key responsibilities include:
Managing senior teams across allocated Depositary clients to meet location, group and broader JPMorgan objectives / targets, including revenue, expense and headcount plans
Pro-active and timely approach to client / industry issues, with regular meetings, presentations and other contact at appropriate intervals, developing and sustaining high quality working relationships, partnering with Investor Services Relationship Managers and other product groups to enhance broader client experience
Ongoing Relationship and Sales team engagement with existing clients and new prospects, demonstrating J.P. Morgan's awareness of regulatory change and Depositary Services differentiators in supporting clients' needs
Protection of existing C&FS revenue and selectively growing the business, identifying opportunities to expand depositary services, profitably supporting regulatory change and evolving client strategies
Engagement with Operations, Product, Markets, Platform, Solutions, Risk, Legal and Compliance partners to ensure the Depositary Services strategy is comprehensive and supports the wider Investor Services business growth objectives appropriately
Supporting the Depositary Services Product and Technical teams in evolving product / regional initiatives, including meeting changing regulatory / client requirements and new pricing / cost to serve model
Regular analysis of key risk assessment data and other MIS to support ongoing oversight at individual client level, including management of ongoing site visit programme and thematic reviews
Working closely across EMEA Depositary business locations to develop best in class depositary oversight and client service models
Ensuring comprehensive UK Depositary Services location risk management, with emphasis on conduct and controls, plus adherence to global framework including RCSA, FORCE, NBIAs and Risk committee reporting, with full substantiation available to support independent third party reviews
Experience / Demonstrated Qualities:
Extensive experience of the Investment Management industry
Strong analytical skills to review regulation, data and metrics, identify trends and opportunities, supporting the development of compelling business cases for investment and continuous improvement initiatives
High emotional intelligence, with proven networking and influencing skills to help the Depositary Services business draw on expertise from a broad network of JPM resources, to build an appropriate product strategy and oversight operating model
In-depth knowledge of UK fund regulation and awareness of the broader European mutual fund agenda including AIFMD and UCITS V impacts
Knowledge of the Depositary Services product offering and other fund products across key European locations including current competitor strengths and weakness, with primary emphasis on the UK market
Network of industry contacts across asset managers, administrators, industry bodies, regulators and competitors
Ability to develop and maintain high quality working relationships with senior client decision makers and influencers
Full appreciation of the concept of oversight and regulatory responsibilities as they impact Investor Services
A high level of awareness and understanding of the 'tail risk' associated with the depositary product, to drive a culture of discipline and continuous improvement
