To analyse, design, implement and develop in-house asset liability management (ALM) and financial risk management capability in the context of long term projected cash flows for pension schemes
To work as a member of the asset and liability risk team in providing financial risk management services to clients, internal stakeholders and shareholders
Working with the investment team, design, implement and develop economic scenario analysis, asset allocation and investment optimisation models
To maintain processes and procedures in the performance of LPP's FCA regulatory requirements as an Alternative Investment Fund Manager
To design, implement and develop risk adjusted investment performance assessment techniques and reporting mechanisms
To design, implement and maintain market risk exposure and sensitivity reports
Working with CRO and other Executive colleagues to enhance the overall balance sheet, solvency, investment and risk management analysis and reporting for pension scheme clients
Assist the CRO/Treasurer with Treasury strategy
Contribute to the initial and ongoing appraisal of investment opportunities (including due diligence), providing risk-based evaluation to the CIO and CRO.
Key Responsibilities Internal
Responsible for the continual development of financial risk analysis, risk management, ALM and reporting in the context of long term projected pension scheme cash flows
Accountable for the continual development of risk based investment performance assessment and reporting
Establish appropriate asset stress testing and scenario analysis processes
Lead development and maintenance of risk management framework for pension scheme clients
To lead management/operation of ORTEC or equivalent asset liability risk management system
Develop proposals for mitigating pension scheme risk through diversification, derivative hedging and identifying desirable valuation and cash flow characteristics for possible future hedging/matching assets
Prepare appropriate MI reporting to facilitate decision making for the CRO, the Executive Committee and the Board
Lead continuous development of VaR/ALM models
Work closely with Investment team, developing working knowledge of asset portfolio
Attend due diligence and investment team meetings as Support/backup for the Liability Management Actuary
Assist the CRO/Treasurer with Treasury strategy.
External (In conjunction with CRO)
To develop personal profile and knowledge as an expert contact point and communication driver on all Financial Risk Management and ALM based matters (especially those relating to optimal asset allocation)
To maintain up to date knowledge in the areas of financial markets, regulatory and actuarial matters; in particular, LGPS regulations and the standards set by the UK Pension regulator following the 2013 Public Services Pensions Act
To be a point of contact and LPP expert in relation to the application of and future development in regulatory matters
To collaborate with colleagues across the organisation on communication of matters relevant to clients, shareholders and pension scheme employers.
1. Educated to graduate level ideally gained within Mathematics, Finance or a related discipline. 2. Qualified or working towards completion of a recognised professional qualification in an investment discipline is desirable. 3. Demonstrable Financial Market Risk experience along with financial engineering/modelling capability. 4. Demonstrable asset class knowledge, with particular reference to risk characteristics across a broad range of asset classes 5. Experience in conducting due diligence on investment managers/strategies is desirable 6. A lateral thinker with excellent problem solving and organisational ability 7. Highly effective communication skills including the ability to influence and build good working relationships at all levels both internally and externally 8. Highly developed numerical, analytical and report writing skills including a working knowledge of MS office tools to assist in the communication of key messages and to facilitate discussions and decision making 9. A proactive, self-motivated team player who has the ability to manage a high personal workload with multiple deadlines and continually strive for improvements in quality, efficiency and presentation.
