We have an exciting opportunity for a Transactional Banking Lawyer to join our team based in London. In this role you will be responsible for advising on legal matters relating to banking and payment services, cash management, international and trade finance for SCCB and SGCB.

As a Transactional Banking Lawyer your main responsibilities will be to
Draft and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements and product terms and conditions
Act as lead counsel on various major projects and transactions in this area working closely with senior management and managing external counsel
Engage and manage external legal advice
Liaise, develop and maintain a working relationship with other teams in the Legal & Regulatory Directorate
Contribute to the success of Santander UK through effective team work seeking efficiencies and working smarter
Maintain involvement with all aspects of SGCB and SCCB Legal team's work to ensure that effective support is provided to other team members when priorities change or at times of peak workload
Minimum skills and experience required
You will hold either a current Solicitor's Practising Certificate for England and Wales or be fully admitted to the English Bar or hold a Scottish or foreign jurisdiction cable of conversion
Experience in transaction banking with knowledge of the regulatory regime for payments, card issuing, merchant acquiring, cash supply and cheques
Experience supporting corporate banking product teams to maintain existing and develop new product collateral (e.g. new market segment specific current account terms and conditions)
A solid knowledge of basic legal concepts and standards for the purpose of negotiating ancillary provisions in these arrangements (e.g. indemnities, guarantees and insurance provisions)
Good understanding of the payment infrastructure of a financial institution, the interaction with its products and membership of payments systems (including the workings of those payment systems)
