Fitch Ratings' EMEA Corporate group provides public and private ratings of companies and their debt instruments in Western Europe, CEE, the CIS, Middle East and Africa.
The department employs over 80 credit analysts across Europe. In addition to London, Fitch's largest office, the department has analysts on the ground in Moscow, Paris, Frankfurt, Warsaw, Barcelona, Stockholm, Milan and Dubai.
The department is split into five sector teams: Utilities and Transport, Natural Resources and Commodities, Consumer and Healthcare, Industrials, and Telecoms, Media and Technology. In addition, a specialist Leveraged Finance team focuses on credits with leveraged capital structures. Dedicated research analysts supporting cross-sector publications complement the department.
The EMEA Consumer and Healthcare team of over 14 analysts covers over 90 public and private credits in consumer-related sectors, split between three broad segments, namely Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Retail, Gaming and Lodging, as well as Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals. Four members of the team are in London, with other members in Paris, Milan, Moscow, Barcelona and Madrid.
Working within the EMEA Corporate Finance Group, the candidate will take analytical responsibility as analyst for a portfolio of Consumer & Healthcare credits, both ratings and credit opinions, focusing on consumer-oriented sectors as dictated by business needs. The role involves collaboration with other corporate sector teams and mainly with Leveraged Finance on high-yield bonds or leveraged loan transactions. Working with other analysts, the candidate will be expected to assist in producing thematic research reports in his/her coverage sectors.
Daily duties, tasks and responsibilities:
present and discuss recommendations, ideas and facts effectively in writing and verbally to a rating committee
need to demonstrate strong modelling skills
show independent thought and insight on credit
deliver quality outputs to internal and external parties within deadlines
use effective questioning and listening skills in internal credit discussions and those with external constituents
keep fully up to date with market/industry developments and proactively manage his/her rating portfolio in response to credit events. This includes identifying areas to comment on externally (if a rating action is not deemed necessary) and discussing these with senior analysts
conduct work in compliance with all relevant policies and procedures
be available to travel within the EMEA region, primarily in western Europe
This position is available primarily in London, or Barcelona, Frankfurt, or Milan where Fitch has an office. If the candidate is based outside of London, an initial introductory period of work (of at least two weeks) in the London office is envisaged as induction to aid in training and integration. This period will be tailored according to the candidate's experience background and training needs.
To apply you must be able to demonstrate strong financial analysis skills, including forward-looking cash flow modelling, preferably from a credit or fixed income background. Adequate communication and team work skills would be considered positively. Substantial work experience and prior knowledge of the consumer and healthcare sectors is desirable, but extensive industry experience is not a prerequisite so long as the candidate has got good self-learning capabilities. Prior experience in leveraged finance and high-yield will be an advantage.
Naturally you must be fluent in all forms of written and spoken English; further knowledge of other languages would be beneficial, for example French or German.
