Newly created role working for a really exciting boutique Global Alternative Investment Manager with circa $15bn AuM
The firm manages money on behalf of a wide range of institutional investors, and, runs a significant number of managed accounts as well as having a growing and hugely successful internal manager platform (of a range of internal fund management teams) that collectively run a market neutral long/short fund that has AuM of over $2bn managed from their London office, and, significantly more globally
This role is unique in terms of being very broad in nature largely due to the operational infrastructure hugely efficient and scalable. The direct team you will be working in is three people servicing a large and complex fund range, and, the role will offer extensive interaction with the front office Investment teams
The role is a true hedge fund "middle office" one, providing responsibility for oversight of all middle office trade operations and accurate NAV production (by the administrator) through production of a timely shadow NAV
As importantly the Manager you will be working for is highly experienced and very entrepreneurial, and, both he and the culture of the firm support both personal and professional development
More detailed duties will include:
Provide operational support in the London time zone for a number of European long/short equity strategies
Work closely with the London Operations Manager, the broader operations management team and the hedge fund administrator's dedicated resource teams covering daily, monthly and annual operations, tax and accounting production as well as on-boarding new trading accounts
Support the daily trade capture and P&L validation process for this basket of European accounts. Review and monitor daily cash and position reconciliations prepared by the administrator and assist in resolving any variances. Monitor corporate actions, dividend and trade settlements daily
Support closely the investment and risk teams and be prepared to respond to queries on individual account transactions and positions and work with the risk team to provide accurate daily risk data across the accounts
Communicate regularly and effectively with each portfolio management team to ensure timely delivery of accurate trade file data. Act as liaison between the portfolio manager, counterparty and administrator to ensure seamless interaction between all parties
Support tracking and analysis of margin excess and financing requirements across the accounts
Become familiar with the accounting and valuation treatment for a variety of asset classes, including equities, contracts-for-difference, FX and predominantly listed derivatives
Become familiar with the accounting treatment for simple and complex corporate action activity and assist the administrator with any related queries
Support the review of and sign-off on a comprehensive monthly accounting package provided by the administrator. Review management and incentive fee calculations
Graduate calibre with evidence of strong numerical skills
Possess a work ethic and attitude that is commensurate with working in an entrepreneurial boutique
2 to 6 years prior work experience with a Hedge Fund, Financial Institution or hedge fund administrator operations and fund accounting department with exposure/understanding of stock loan, corporate actions and settlements process for equities and CFDs
The proven ability to work with front office stakeholders, manage expectations and be a problem solver
Demonstrable experience of system/process/procedural improvements (Ideal)
Experience with Microsoft office applications in particular Excel (VBA/Macro Ideal), comfort with custom database environments, OMS/PMS environments. Knowledge of Advent Geneva and Partner helpful
Highly motivated self-starter with an appetite for knowledge and eager to learn
Strong organizational skills with the ability to set, organize and meet priorities and able to demonstrate strong attention to detail
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently as well as with others in a team environment
