The team supports a wide range of business areas and products, including UK and Irish domiciled mutual funds listed investment trust companies, discretionary portfolio management for institutional clients, Equity, Fixed Income, Solutions and Real Estate investment and the provision of funds and administration services to UK and multinational defined contribution pensions and long term savings schemes. The UK mutual funds business covers product development, distribution of retail and institutional funds via wholesale and direct retail channels. Third party funds are distributed through platforms, including Fidelity's adviser platform, FundsNetwork™. The team provides advice and assistance to business and oversight functions in understanding and implementing legislative changes and on risk management and customer services issues.
The candidate will support the UK Business comprising DC pensions (both UK and offshore), Workplace Investing and retail investing (advised and non advised). Focus will initially be on supporting the workplace investing business.
The workplace investing business provides investment and administration services to employers and trustees of UK pension schemes and to employers of multinational retirement/savings plans. The funds provided under these schemes and plans are both Fidelity funds and externally managed funds. The funds are provided through FIL Life Insurance Limited and FIL Life (Insurance) Ireland DAC. The candidate will be required to support both insurance companies in the running of their respective businesses.
The retail business provides investment solutions to retail investors through its advised and non advised platforms. The products offered include ISAs, General Investment Accounts and stockbroking services.
To provide support with the day to day legal questions which arise within the UK Business; supporting both the DC and retail businesses.
Drafting and negotiating third party fund provider agreements, life policies and wide range of commercial agreements related to the UK Business.
Working with other departments within the wider global legal relating to the delegation and overseeing of the negotiation of NDAs, DPAs, linking agreements and trademark agreements.
Represent Fidelity in external meetings and meetings with regulators.
Review new laws and regulations and assess the impact on the UK Business; advise on legal and regulatory environment; liaise with external counsel.
Act as a key liaison with other legal teams, company secretariat, compliance, risk and internal audit functions within the group working with these areas to ensure a joined-up and co-operative approach. Experience and qualifications
Fully qualified commercially thinking lawyer with solid and relevant experience of working in a law firm or had a legal role within an international asset management organisation or life group or similar.
Solid understanding of the laws applicable to UK pensions.
Knowledge of unit linked insurance, both common law and regulatory, also an advantage.
Ability to advise on the challenging mix of different laws and regulations that will be relevant and experience of international projects would be useful.
Familiarity with trust, tax and data protection law
Knowledge of corporate and general commercial law helpful
