The Senior Manager, Compliance & Monitoring (Senior Manager) will be responsible for compliance monitoring and risk oversight and monitoring of SVB Financial Group's UK operations. This will include assisting with all FCA/PRA regulations and relevant US regulations, guideline adherence and monitoring. The individual will also help with the maintenance of various policies and procedures.
In this role the Senior Manager will primarily be expected to lead, design and perform compliance monitoring activities (i.e. testing), define and support business units with the remediation of monitoring results and document test results for management reporting. The role is also responsible for tracking and following up monitoring efforts and escalating any exceptions to Senior Management. The Senior Manager is also responsible for developing and maintaining the compliance risk assessment.
The Senior Manager will also be responsible for building out the risk oversight and monitoring function more broadly including development and maintenance of any policies, procedures, process and reporting required to support Senior Management in the execution of their roles. They will be expected to understand the broader enterprise wide risk management frameworks and developments and coordinate closely to ensure that the UK is consistent where appropriate and build out a proportionate and effective risk management function.
The role will report to the Senior Director, Compliance and Regulatory Relations.
The role may additionally require complex compliance research and analysis for new and/or underdeveloped compliance programs. The individual will also be expected to assist on projects where compliance and/or risk input is required, helping the business understanding of risk and compliance matters. The individual will also be expected to produce meaningful management information and analysis beyond production of simple data and work independently as well as in partnership with the rest of the team and the business as a whole.
They should use their judgment within defined procedures and practices in order to determine the appropriate action to take. This means practically looking at issues from with an open mind and with a broad perspective to ensure that advice encompasses not only existing requirements but industry direction and business needs.
Primary duties in this context will therefore include the following:
Managing and performing monitoring activities of regulatory requirements
Carrying out compliance research for monitoring activities and any ad hoc requests
The design, ownership and creation of monitoring procedures, workpapers and management reports for regulatory areas
Responsibility for communicating results of activities to the business unit stakeholders
Responsibility for designing, creating and updating the compliance risk assessments
Creating and building strong relationships with team members and internal business stakeholders
Providing support and carrying out activities relating to anti-money laundering, regulatory reporting and any other ad hoc requests
Creation and maintenance of the risk appetite statement.
Assisting EWRM with reviews as requested
Working with the business on risk control frameworks
Monitoring and reporting on changes in risk profile and performance on both a historic and forward looking basis
Work with Internal Audit on their reviews and support effective coordination across all business areas including remediation of findings
Incident and event management, including risk investigations and reporting
Creation and maintenance of risk control frameworks
Advice and guidance to the business on risk issues (BAU and projects)
Attendance at relevant industry events and forums
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:
Relevant compliance monitoring and/or other regulatory and legal experience ideally from a banking environment, regulatory body (the FCA/PRA) or regulatory audit. Experience in broader risk monitoring and oversight would be an advantage
Solid analytical, issue-spotting and written/verbal communication skills, and should be flexible and willing to handle a variety of compliance and risk issues
A strong sense of urgency, the ability to think beyond the initial set of facts or issues and have a strong orientation for probing for less than apparent solutions. The individual should have a strong sense of ethics, sound business judgment and the desire to be a business-orientated problem solver
The ability to work on confidential and sensitive matters, exercising good judgement in the execution of the role and putting the needs of the business first. The role holder will also be expected to "cast the right shadow" within the wider business, including acting as a liaison point into both the UK and US businesses and particularly the US risk and compliance functions
Industry leadership - the need to stay abreast of industry developments and attend industry events as a representative of the company, and to understand and explain to the broader business the key outcomes from industry changes and developments in a concise, accurate and timely manner
Bachelor's degree (ideally in Law) or equivalent related experience
