Strategy and leadership
* Support the Head of Legal, Private Banking & Wealth Management UK & Jersey (Head of Legal PvB & WM UK & Jersey) to promote a culture and practice of compliance with legal standards (including conducting business within legal and regulatory requirements and to high ethical standards) within the Group. * Support the Head of Legal PvB & WM UK & Jersey in delivering the priorities and agenda for the Private Banking and Wealth Management businesses in UK & Jersey Support the Head of Legal PvB & WM UK & Jersey in the identification and management of material legal and regulatory risks relevant to the UK and Jersey PvB and WM businesses * Collaborate with other members of the Private Bank and Wealth Management legal teams to deliver on broader Global projects as directed by Global Head of Legal, Private Banking and Wealth Management * With appropriate guidance of Head of Legal PvB & WM UK & Jersey, support the strategic intent of the Legal function and the Group, collaborating with other parts of the Legal function, relevant businesses and functional groups, as required.
Business * Build and maintain an effective and constructive relationship with all key business and functional stakeholders that is based on trust, capability and integrity, providing timely, responsive and quality legal advice and guidance to enable the business and functions to meet/ achieve their strategic tactical objectives. * Provide timely legal advice, briefings, recommendations and reports on material legal risks and issues to the Head of Legal PvB & WM UK & Jersey y and/or to business, country and functional stakeholders to ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations relevant to the PvB and WM businesses in UK and Jersey. * Provide robust challenge to senior management and all relevant business stakeholders where activities are outside risk tolerance/ appetite, assisting with establishing plans to address any remedial action required to return to an acceptable risk tolerance level, escalating as necessary until appropriate oversight and ownership is achieved.. * Support WM in the development of products and processes, particularly with respect to credit lending and structured products. Identify generic reputational, ethical, legal and regulatory risks affecting WM products and make necessary recommendations for the approval or amendments of such products in order to provide adequate risk controls. Develop, implement and manage with Group Investment Product Management comprehensive policies, procedures and standards for product development, including product program processes. * Provide support in problem-solving and crisis management over critical issues that have a legal or regulatory impact on the Private Bank's and WM's business/operations. * Raise awareness of legal and regulatory risks and issues within the wider business area of responsibility through delivering specific training to business stakeholders.
Support the Head of Legal PvB & WM UK & Jersey by: * helping to establish and maintain effective processes (including training, advice and support) to ensure that policies, procedures and standards to address legal risks are effectively implemented across PvB and WM in UK and Jersey. * Providing support and challenge to the London and Jersey PvB and WM senior management to ensure that they establish and monitor appropriate processes, policies, procedures and standards to manage legal risks.. * contributing to Legal's risk governance through providing country perspective on legal risk policies and procedures and ensuring consistency in the country's approach to legal risk management. Responsible for rolling out Legal Risk policies and procedures. * ensuring that external counsel are engaged in accordance with relevant Group Legal policies & procedures and provide support for panel arrangements when required.
Risk Management * Ensure effective management of legal matters, and under the supervision of the Head of Legal PvB & WM UK & Jersey, effectively manage regulatory issues that have a significant impact on the Bank. * Collaborate with the wider PvB, WM and UK & Europe Regional Legal teams to anticipate horizon risks that may have a significant impact on the Bank and develop effective strategies to mitigate such horizon risks including global standards for conduct of business. * Ensure proactive and timely identification, assessment, advice and dissemination of evolving regulatory changes/practices and associated risks, and proactive engagement in regulatory reform.
Governance * Have an awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role.
* Develop and recommend (for approval by the Head of Legal PvB & WM UK & Jersey and other relevant Risk owners), appropriate country addenda to policies and procedures relevant to the PvB and WM businesses. * Ensure appropriate product governance measures are in place so that product approval documents reflect all legal requirements.
Regulatory & Business conduct * Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group's Values and Code of Conduct. * Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct. * Support the delivery of outcomes set out in the Bank's Conduct Principles: Fair Outcomes for Clients; Financial Crime Prevention; The Right Environment. * Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.

Other Responsibilities * Embed Here for good and Group's brand and values in London and Jersey Private Banking & Wealth Management Teams * Perform other responsibilities assigned under Group, Country, Business or Functional policies and procedures.
* Qualified lawyer with significant post-qualification experience (ideally with experience in advising a WM and/ or Private Bank business) * Previous experience of working within a regulated environment (ideally with retail clients) * Knowledge and experience of (some or all of) the products offered by WM and in particular credit lending and structured products * Thorough knowledge of financial services, banking and other laws and regulations in UK and/or Jersey * Strong analytical and innovative legal skills * Good communication and interpersonal skills, especially with business people * Good judgement enabling the provision of sound advice in difficult areas of law and practice * An inquisitive approach to practices, procedures and specific transactions * Independence and robustness * Personal authority, integrity and ethics * Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and work effectively with business units * Proficiency in English, written and spoken
