What you will do You will be part of a small operational team responsible for the oversight of off-shore teams for the Melbourne office, as well as providing support for Northern Trust partners such as Treasury and Client Services for Australian payment and liquidity management processes. The role will be flexible and may be varied dependent on requirements within the team. You will build and maintain relationships with the business, operation services, technology and strategic change teams globally. The role is in the Australia market and therefore an appreciation of the Australian payments and banking landscape is a desired skill. You will be responsible for: -
Payment work flow and exception monitoring
Australia Central bank payment activity e.g. repairs, rejection
Vostro and Nostro reconciliations
Extensive intraday liaison with Treasury front office
Extensive liaison with global off-shore teams and managing internal escalations
Escalation of issues to Senior Management
Interbank communication and escalation point for External Banks
Position keeping; managing funding as required
Preparation of Treasury projections and intraday positions
Managing flow control in period of stress management or to optimise payment flows.
RITS and Austraclear GUI management
Completion of all activities accurately and in accordance with internal & external deadlines
Assisting with broader Cash & Banking APAC time zone activities may be required
Assisting in the preparation of monthly reports to internal partners as well as regulators
Consultancy activity; supporting ad hoc projects related to Cash & Banking Services
Development of productivity and quality metrics
Keeping abreast of developments within the cash & banking environment, along with regulatory developments
Provide team support as required
Your Knowledge/Skills: You will have well developed communication skills; the ability to work virtually and physically across multiple locations and time zones, and sound knowledge of the AUD market in respect to cash clearing. Ideally a self -starter and able to work autonomously when required, you will relish problem solving where attention to detail is a must.
Requires strong communication skills and practical experience of managing multi-faceted teams within a Cash environment.
In-market experience gained through working within the Australian Banking network and/or NT delivery experience, in addition to exposure to regulators is desirable.
Strong understanding of AUD clearing, specifically High Value Clearing System (HVCS) and Austraclear.
Prior knowledge and experience of improving STP rates for payments processing and troubleshooting of issues around payment formatting both in regards to payments sent and those received in from other banks.
Good understanding of payments regulations within Australia, and more globally in relation to EU Wire transfer regulations and FATF16 guidelines would be advantageous
Proven experience of interfacing with multiple teams internal and external on complex payments transformation programs
Good understanding of Cash Management and Intraday Liquidity activities within an overall Cash ecosystem.
Proven ability to resolve complex problems using negotiation, influencing and escalation methods.
Five or more years of related investments experience with an in-depth knowledge of alternatives.
Strong working knowledge of the asset management and custody industry.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Tech savvy with the ability to pick up new concepts/ways of working quickly.
Related finance qualifications at an undergraduate level or higher are well regarded.
