The Team: The Asia Pacific economics team is part of a New York-led global team that provides key macro inputs into the various ratings practices in the form of forecasts, risk scenarios and analysis. It also interacts with market participants (investors, issuers, regulators and central banks) and plays a frontline role in telling S&P credit story to the media and major conferences. The team thrives on producing thought leading macro analysis, developing accurate forecasts and risk scenarios via clear and crisp communication.
The Impact: This position provides regional oversight and strategic direction on Asia Pacific economics. The chief economist will be responsible for conducting in-depth economic analysis on a variety regional economies. In addition, the chief economist will be the lead spokesperson on economic matters in the region.

Reports to the Global Chief Economist, with a dotted line to the regional CEO.
What we're looking for:
Undertake thought provoking research and analysis of economic and financial trends and developments in APAC. The chief economist will focus on our top markets: China, Japan, Australia and India.
Develop/Strengthen relationships with thought leaders and officials in those countries under coverage (central banks, national statistical offices, academic researchers).
Be a leader and role model in the region, exhibiting the highest professional and ethical behavior.
Present a strong public profile, speaking and S&P sponsored events and other top tier conferences, effectively representing the firm and its views and interests.
Develop/Strengthen relationships with tier-1 media in countries under coverage to give S&P's economic views high visibility.
Extensive experience as a professional economist in a combination of roles in the private financial sector, central banking, and international organizations.
Advanced degree (preferably a PhD) in economics from a top tier university.
Excellent public speaking skills/track record and strong communication skills.
Excellent collaboration skills as the role demands working across functions and geographies.
Willingness to travel and manage work across several time zones.
