To assist the management to promote, lead and manage the culture and practice of compliance with the letter and spirit of legal and regulatory requirements and ethical standards in the conduct of business, and to oversee compliance with those requirements and standards
To assist management to ensure that the Bank and its subsidiaries operate in accordance with all applicable (a) regulatory and legal requirements and (b) Group standards and requirements, so as to protect the Bank from compliance and regulatory risks and enhance the reputation of the Bank and its subsidiaries in Hong Kong and avoid reputation / financial loss
To advise business and support units on legal and compliance issues arising from their operations and business
When circumstances necessitate, act as focal contact point between the Bank and the regulators and maintain a good working relationship between them
To serve as the internal counsel to the Bank
Key Roles and Responsibilities
To provide support to management to ensure that they establish appropriate internal control systems for meeting legal and regulatory obligations and high standards of business conduct, in accordance with the Group compliance standards and local regulatory and legal requirements
To provide advisory services to business and/or support units on legal and compliance related issues
To assist business and/or support units to establish appropriate policies, manuals and procedures for their operations with due regard to all applicable Group requirements and regulatory requirements of banking and financial service industries
Assist in driving the development and implementation of the local privacy management program including coordinating with the Group L&C Privacy, and where necessary leverage on its standards and tools.
To produce legal and compliance commentary for senior manager, when necessary.
To liaise with Group and/or Regional Legal and Compliance on Group initiatives and projects and provide advice on relevant country legal requirements.
To advise on and handle legal and compliance issues at a country level in relation to Group and/or Regional initiatives and projects.
To advise on and handle matters related to Country Legal and Compliance matters
To serve as the internal counsel to the Bank
Qualifications and Skills
Substantial in legal, compliance and regulatory risk management
Substantial experience in the banking industry, including demonstrated success in a similar role
Ability to collaborate and work dynamically across country, region, business and group stakeholders
Understanding of best practice risk management techniques and frameworks
Understanding of the key features of relevant laws and regulations relevant to the Group
Sound judgement on business practices, regulatory relationship management and reputational risk
Exemplary integrity, ethics, independence and resilience
