Our client will give some initial seed capital or working capital to run a private debt/mezz / distressed debt fund. The incumbent is expected to work under our client's brand and they expect the fund to reach a USD 1bn-2bn size in next 1-2 years. They are looking for someone who is able to speak and understand Chinese fluently and would prefer someone who is covering China High Yield markets, if not then they could also consider somoene with Asia Credit Markets experience as well.
They need someone who has a deep fundamental bottom up approach to investing andshould have strong private debt markets background. What they are obviously more concerned about is the track record and fit of this person. At the moment our client has a pretty good equities and public debt track record and hence would like to beef up with someone running their private debt business. Given they are almost acting like an LP in this situation the candidate should have compelling track record.
The incumbent will be responsible for implementing the strategy, making it scalable over time and building a team to support the fund. Our client will take less control of the economics as time progresses and will just provide support through resources and a platform to operate. Their end goal is to build a strong global asset management platform across multiple products but they intend to focus on structured credit, high yield, private loans business initially.
