We are seeking a Legal Counsel to join our Citi Legal team and be the primary legal contact for the Citi Australia Consumer Wealth and Deposit business In providing legal coverage to our Consumer Wealth and Deposit business your key responsibilities will involve:
Identifying and mitigating legal, regulatory and reputational risk for Citi, by providing quality legal advice and counsel
Proactively identifying and interpreting new legislative requirements with the potential to affect the business, and provide the business and control functions with timely advice and support with any necessary implementation
Working with business and control functions to facilitate compliance with laws and regulations, including the review of marketing and disclosure documents
Managing the defence and resolution of, and provision of advice on, complaints and disputes, including litigation, regulatory inquiries, investigations and external arbitrations, such as those sourced from the Financial Ombudsman Service Limited and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission
Drafting, reviewing and negotiating the contractual documents between Citi and third parties in a timely and commercial manner
To be successful in this position you must have the following skills and experience:
A current NSW legal practicing certificate
Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent visa
A law degree and at least five years' post-admission practicing experience in Australian financial services, preferably in retail wealth management gained either at a top-tier or mid-tier practice, or in-house at a financial institution
Comprehensive understanding of Chapter 7 of the Corporations Act 2001, the ASIC Act 2001, the Code of Banking Practice, the ePayments Code, relevant ASIC Regulatory Guides and APRA Prudential Standards
Ability to work in a team and independently
Practice management, legal analysis and problem solving
Excellent written and oral skills to communicate effectively with a range of clients with limited to extensive knowledge
Professional service delivery, standards and client focus
Ability to proactively build strong relationships and networks within Citi
Ability to liaise with and manage relationships involving third party service providers
Willingness to take-on projects or responsibility in new areas, including involving law outside of Australia
