The ideal candidate for this role possesses strong technical acumen and an understanding of the time critical trading environment. One must be willing and able to wear multiple hats in this software engineering and trade messaging support role that spans Equity Trading, Research application development, and various systems across investment management teams globally. These teams include but are not limited to, Equity Trading desks, ETFs, the Global Research Library, and Quant Modeling. This support and development role works alongside a tight knit and experienced team of engineers over a broad range of technologies.
Reporting to the Manager of Trade Messaging and Research Library Development, this role is specifically located within our San Mateo headquarters to be able to interact directly and in person with Traders and Research Analysts on a day to day basis.
The ideal candidate will possess extremely strong communication skills at both a technical level, and within the varied asset management domain, along with a hunger for understanding and reforming the workflows and experiences of investment management professionals.
Strong understanding of the FIX protocol and trading support during market hours
Key contact & technical liaison for multiple trading teams based in San Mateo
Development of software projects oriented to extending or creating new tools used by investment management professionals
Analysis of pre-existing workflows, ideation, and proposal of new methods
Maintaining an understanding of relevant commercial software applications in the domain of trade execution
Research and exploration of new tools and techniques pertaining to general application delivery, management, and reliability within a large enterprise
Qualifications Experience & Qualifications
Working knowledge of FIX Engines (NYFIX Appia, Cameron, Quickfix and the like) and message bus services (including the likes of IBM WebSphere MQ and Aurea Sonic)
Software Engineer / System Analysis experienced in an Investment Management environment
A good understanding of Agile (Scrum, DAD, and the like) methodologies
An appreciation of the goals of DevOps concepts and paradigms of automation
A solid understanding of asset management business process workflows
A minimum of 2 years relevant industry experience (active or passive investment management)
Software engineering skills, ideally using several of the following technologies and protocols: FIX, Java, C#, .NET, WPF, SQL Server, JMS MQ
The ideal candidate will have direct collaboration & outreach with traders and investment management professionals with an attitude of accuracy, speed, and expedience being paramount
Ability to adapt quickly and easily to changes within the business
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to work both independently or in a virtual team environment on larger projects.
Excellent organization, planning and time management skills.
