This is a high profile and business-critical role given the importance of developing and managing client-centric and innovative products (funds and segregated mandates) across all asset classes to support the firm's future growth. In addition to core Product strategy and development activities, the jobholder will be expected to support the firm's distribution and corporate strategy initiatives.
Role & Responsibilities There is an emphasis on maintaining strong relationships with key business areas within the company, in particular Investments, Business Development, Compliance, Risk, Legal and Operations teams. This role will engage closely with key stakeholders from these functions, as well as suppliers of out-sourced services, to help shape robust business cases for new products and changes to the existing range. It is expected that you will support the business in understanding issues such as selecting fund domicile and structures, fund arrangements, competitor and asset class information, including researching and preparing proposals to assist management in decision making. A working knowledge (or interest in acquiring knowledge) of relevant regulation, such as MiFID II, AIFMD and UCITS, and its impact on funds is expected. Another facet of the role involves the maintenance of product governance in a range of aspects, such as product approvals and supporting relevant product governance committees.
Build and manage strong relationships at all levels with key stakeholders (including ExCo) across the business to promote the effective setting and delivery of product strategy and development.
Promote client-centric activity aligned with the firm's responsible investment focus and the expectations of the regulator(s).
Project manage the implementation of product development, change and ongoing product management activities.
Advise the business on the considerations for new product strategy and development across a range of areas, including regulatory and legal requirements, potential operational efficiencies and issues, speed to market etc. across various jurisdictions including the UK, US, Ireland & Luxembourg.
Maintain an effective balance between efficient delivery and the ability to respond to market opportunities.
Understand the competitor landscape and use market intelligence to inform product design; prepare market research analysis using databases and third party provider information.
Understand customer needs in relation to product strategy, development and management; coordinate third party research into customer insights where necessary and/or liaise with sales to obtain direct client feedback.
Play a role in the governance mechanisms used to manage, approve, prioritise and deliver product development initiatives, including secretarial activities for product governance committees.
Support the firm's response to regulatory change and participate in working groups as required.
Coordinate relevant product strategy and development initiatives across all asset classes (including public & private market equity and credit, real estate and infrastructure) and all functions, including manufacturing, distribution and operational infrastructure, via strong project and stakeholder management.
Act a point of contact for issues and queries relating to the company's products and the product development process. Work with all areas of the business to help resolve product related issues.
Assist in maintaining the product development pipeline and deliver, on time and on budget, approved product-related initiatives.
Manage straightforward product launches and other related product projects. Manage work-streams of complex product launches.
Help to coordinate the governance approval process for new products and new investment instruments. Act as secretary for committees as required.
In conjunction with Investment teams, Business Development and the Operations Infrastructure groups, prepare the necessary documentation for submission to the Business Development Forum and New Products, Instrument & Markets Approvals Committee, amongst others.
Prepare management information for senior management on product development initiatives.
Support and coordinate annual reviews of the company's fund range.
Develop individual product-related content knowledge, in particular around regulations, fund structures, product development process, market trends and investment content; share this knowledge with the team and business.
Skills & Experience
Likely to have 2 – 5 years of Product Development experience in an asset manager, in order to demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary.
A broad knowledge of the investment management industry, pooled funds and how investment products are distributed, with an understanding of UCITS, AIFMD and MiFID II regulation. Knowledge and understanding of the institutional and wholesale investor landscape in UK and Europe.
A strong entrepreneurial outlook; self-starting with the ability to show initiative and a desire to drive tasks through to completion in timely manner.
Strong planning and organisation skills and high attention to detail.
An ability to express complex concepts in clear language; exceptional communication skills (across emails, board papers, presentations, meetings, etc.).
The ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of management across the business and suppliers.
An awareness of operational, reputational and investment risk and the ways these can be mitigated.
Highly intellectual with the ability to act in a proactive professional manner, either autonomously or as part of a broader team.
An ability to multi-task and lead change projects.
Strong strategic analysis and proposition development skills.
Strong intellectual skills, evidenced by good results from a top-ranked university degree-level education (or equivalent).
