The Monitor Liaison Office (MLO) has a very high profile, and an important role within the Group - namely, to provide an efficient and effective interface between HSBC and the external Monitor(s) appointed by the US Department of Justice, UK Financial Conduct Authority, Federal Reserve Board and other regulatory bodies to evaluate the effectiveness of the Group's internal compliance controls, policies and procedures.
The Senior Manager, Relationship Management is responsible for managing and growing the overall relationship with key decision makers and influencers within the Monitor's team and also in HSBC. This will involve the Senior Manager managing relationships with HSBC stakeholder at various levels across Global Business Lines and/or Functions. In addition, the Monitor's Team is structured along specific subject areas and the role will lead on managing the relationship with the relevant subject matter expert and their deputy. The role has the following main components:
Help HSBC maintain proactive, constructive and productive relations with the Monitor and his Team.
Providing advice and support to HSBC colleagues on Monitorship matters.
Demonstrate high competence in "demand shaping" - stimulating, surfacing and shaping demand from two sets of stakeholders. A respected contributor to both HSBC and the Monitor's team, earning a seat at the table to actively engage on future plans and strategies.
Understand and promote MLO process and procedures, manage internal partner relationship, establish a sense of trust, team involvement/ownership and communicate urgency when need to provide. Champion and broker process improvements when required
Address stakeholder issues/concerns in accurate and timely manner
Work closely with Monitor and HSBC stakeholders to understand requirements and to explore opportunities for increased engagement
Maintain strong knowledge of SME work stream objectives, progress and knowledge levels
Maintain strong knowledge of assigned business/ function financial crime strategy, programme and current state
Act as an empowered delegate to the Head of Relationship Management (when appropriate), required to rapidly establish and build credibility with the Monitor and his team with excellent knowledge of their respective areas
To be successful in the role, it is likely that you will meet the following requirements:
Significant experience of meeting with and presenting to senior management, and preferably also senior external contacts - i.e. the local regulators
Excellent knowledge of proactive risk and issue management and status report writing
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
A good understanding of financial crime regulation and compliance
Outstanding leadership skills - ability to build rapport, trust and quickly establish credibility
Ability to work in a fast-moving, high-pressure environment - have significant experience of operating in complex environments, remaining calm under pressure and displaying strong resilience in challenging circumstances
Ability to critically review a wide variety of documents (i.e. both quantitative and qualitative data)
