We are currently recruiting a Head of Operational Risk to facilitate the Newton Operational Risk Management Framework.
The successful candidate will:
Oversee the management of the OpRisk Team, including daily and ad-hoc activities for which the team is responsible.
Engage with stakeholders at the Newton Board, Executive and Senior Management levels and BNY Mellon Risk & Compliance function providing support for risk-based decision making and assurance that controls are functioning well within the first line of defence.
Ensure corporate risk management policies are embedded in the business and issues are escalated accordingly.
Give quality advice, guidance and training to the business so that the business can manage its risks and meet its regulatory obligations.
Facilitate the Risk Management Framework including the integration of distinct risk management activities and overarching risk culture through the Risk Appetite Statement and Newton Top Risks reporting.
Ensure adequacy and timely delivery of management information and advice to stakeholders including BNY Mellon Risk & Compliance and the Newton Board, Executive and Senior Management levels, giving a view of the enterprise risks and control environment at Newton.
Ensure adherence to BNY Mellon Risk Management policies, including requirements for escalation of material and significant issues.
Participate in relevant business and governance committees.
Comply with all corporate policies and procedures including Heath and Safety Policy.
Oversee the OpRisk Team including key risk management activities such as:
o OpRisk Event reporting and error resolution o Risk Control Self Assessment o Business/project risk assessment and risk/resource prioritization reviews o Key Risk Indicators o ERCAP o Maintenance of Tier 3 policies and procedures for risk management o Training to the business o Contribute to the management of the Newton Risk Department by building relationships and engaging with other Heads of teams and Senior Managers. o Provide accurate and appropriate management information to Senior Management.
TCF, Regulatory and Compliance Responsibilities: Be aware, maintain knowledge and adhere to the relevant regulatory and legal obligation of the function managed, including local and wider group policies. This should include an understanding, and the appropriate application of the FSA requirements and the Six Consumer Outcomes and Newton's TCF commitments. Report any suspected breaches to the Compliance or Legal departments, as appropriate immediately on discovery.
Risk Management: Monitor, document and report business risks and internal controls of the function managed, alerting Senior Management immediately of any significant changes.
Manage OpRisk Managers and Analysts (five permanent resources and various temporary resources (interns, secondees) as required).
Provide clear direction and leadership to direct reports.
Provide guidance to Managers to aid them in giving clear direction and leadership to their delegated reports.
Set professional example to staff.
Support and encourage staff development, objective setting and appraisals.
Ensure adequate succession plans are in place for the functions managed.
Qualifications Key Skills/Qualifications:
Solid quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, attention to detail and strong excel skills;
Strong communication skills (both written and oral);
Strong desire to build an operational risk management career
Proven interpersonal skills with ability to work with a fair degree of autonomy and demonstrate initiative and a sense of personal accountability, but remain a team player and enjoy contributing in a cooperative environment;
Ability to work well in a small, collaborative team.
The ideal candidate should be educated to degree level with Operational Risk Management experience within financial services, however strong candidates with transferable experience will also be considered;
