The Emerging Markets Credit Strategist will work with and report to the Head of the EM Credit Team who is also the lead EM Credit Strategist. This is an investment strategy role with macro top down asset allocation and portfolio construction responsibilities. The strategist will put into perspective market fundamnetals in relation to current and expected valuations and market technicals which will lead to asset allocation recommendations. So this is not a credit analyst role. The team already contains two strong EM Credit analysts.
Current Team: the EM Credit team numbers four in total and is part of a larger independent credit and strategy group of 24 people overall. The Group Credit team looks after all the credit ratings for the Funds €200bn of debt investments. The EM Credit Team contins two strong EM Credit Analysts covering EM Sovs, Quasi-Sovs, Large Investment Grade EM Corps and Financials in Asia, Latam, and EMEA. The team is headed up by the Head of EM Credit Strategy. The Head of the Team does RV and Investment allocation and analysis (background in DM, Alternative Credit, Structured Products & HY with bank and buy side Portfolio Management experience).
The EM Credit Strategist is the fourth team member.
The main skill sets required are:
Someone with good Investment analysis and expertise in fixed income - pricing, valuation, with investment acumen, ideally with an EM background. Would consider those with DM background but they would need to have a very strong drive to learn EM.
The role will need someone who will read a wide range of internal and external publications to enable them to form market views and to challenge portfolio managers (internal & external). This may lead to recommendations to make changes in funds allocations etc.
The focus is investment strategy & asset allocation within EM. There will also be some DM investment strategy responsibilities - eg looking at Alternative Credit and Hedge Funds. Focus is top down macro which will help put in perspective investment valuations.
Good inter-personal skills, good team working skills and work ethic, strong drive to learn and develop personally. Someone who is flexible regarding variety of day-to-day work and who is good at and enjoys multi-tasking.
Typical Output expectations for this role include monthly / ad hoc updates on RV and Credit Strategy for EM plus the same for some DM investments. Also ad hoc investment memos and investment strategy reviews.
